38 years ago today, my wife and I were married.
I was beginning a life as a professional musician and she was in the midst of her teaching career. We had grown up together, “going together” in the sixth grade and again our senior year of high school. We knew each other very well.
We had no clue what lay ahead.
We definately did not believe we would end up in Africa as missionary teachers. Africa was far off the radar for us . . . never, ever wanting to even go there on a vacation.
But then by God’s sovereign grace, He took us there [you can read our story here]. It was a fantastic eight years, but ended in frustration and anger with toxic leadership.
However, that experience, along with the education from a dear, old friend who was suffering from domestic abuse, brought us to where we are today.
The LORD knit us together for this day. The “wife of my youth” is my best friend and partner in seeking justice, healing, and accountablity for those who suffer under toxic leadership in the home, church, and workplace and for their tormentors.
I thank God that we have this ministry together despite our very different gifting and personalities.
I thank the LORD every day for the best wife ever and that I have had 38 years with my best friend at my side, loving me and loving others as she does so well.
God is Good.
I am so thankful for your non-toxic leadership. Congratulations on 38 years together.
Thanks Melanie. Seems awfully close to 50!
